Cannabis 101 - BEGINNER FAQ
what is cannabis?
Cannabis is a plant that contains compounds called cannabinoids, which can produce effects like relaxation, euphoria, or many other beneficial effects. Studies have shown that it has been used for both medicinal and recreational purposes for thousands of years.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT WAYS TO CONSUME CANNABIS?
Cannabis can be consumed in several ways including smoking, vaping, edibles, oils, tinctures, topicals, and capsules. Each method offers a different onset time and duration of effects. Remember to start with a low dose, go slow and be safe.
What’s the difference between Sativa, Indica, and Hybrid strains?
~ Sativa strains are often associated with uplifting, energetic effects—great for daytime use.
~ Indica strains tend to promote relaxation and are commonly used in the evening.
~ Hybrid strains are a blend of both and can be balanced, uplifting, or calming depending on the strain's genetics.
What are cannabinoids like CBD, CBG, and CBN?
~ CBD (Cannabidiol) is non-intoxicating and known for its calming, anti-inflammatory effects.
~ CBG (Cannabigerol) is considered the “mother cannabinoid” and may help with focus and mood.
~ CBN (Cannabinol) is mildly psychoactive and is commonly associated with sleep support.
What are the main ways to consume cannabis?
The most common methods include smoking, vaping, edibles, tinctures, topicals, capsules, and concentrates. Each method delivers cannabinoids to your body differently.
What are tinctures?
Tinctures are liquid cannabis extracts taken sublingually (under the tongue) or added to food/drink. They offer faster onset than edibles and precise dosing.
How do edibles work?
Edibles are food products infused with cannabis. They take longer to kick in (30 minutes to 2 hours), but effects last much longer—sometimes 6–8 hours.
What’s the difference between smoking and vaping?
Smoking involves burning the flower, while vaping heats cannabis at a lower temperature to release vapor. Vaping tends to be smoother and more discreet than smoking.
What are topicals?
Topicals are cannabis-infused creams or balms applied directly to the skin for localized relief—commonly used for muscle pain or inflammation. They’re non-intoxicating.
Which method is right for beginners?
Start low and go slow. Many beginners try low-dose edibles, tinctures, or vape pens because they offer controlled dosing and gentler experiences.
How do I choose the right cannabis product for me?
Start by identifying your goal (e.g., relaxation, focus, sleep, creativity) and then choose a strain and format that supports that goal. Consider cannabinoid content (THC), terpene profile, and preferred consumption method—our team at Green Queen is happy to guide you!
🌿 Top 10 Cannabis Terpenes & Their Effects
🌱What are terpenes?
Terpenes are the aromatic compounds found in cannabis (and many other plants) that give each strain its distinct scent and flavor — like citrus, pine, earth, or spice. Beyond just smell, terpenes can also influence how cannabis feels, playing a role in whether a strain is more relaxing, energizing, or calming.
Myrcene
Earthy, musky, and herbal. Known for relaxing, sedative effects — a key player in the “couch-lock” sensation.
Limonene
Citrusy and fresh. Offers uplifting, stress-relieving effects and may support mood elevation.
Caryophyllene
Spicy and peppery. Unique for interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid system, often linked to anti-inflammatory and pain relief.
Linalool
Lavender-like and floral. Associated with calming, anti-anxiety, and anti-depressant effects.
Pinene
Pine-scented and refreshing. May enhance alertness, memory, and has potential bronchodilator (lung-opening) properties.
Humulene
Woody and earthy, like hops. May help with appetite suppression and inflammation.
Terpinolene
Fruity, floral, with a touch of pine. Has uplifting effects and is often found in sativa-dominant strains.
Ocimene
Sweet and herbal with citrus notes. Known for its energizing properties and potential antiviral and antifungal traits.
Bisabolol
Delicate floral scent, similar to chamomile. Valued for soothing, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial effects.
Eucalyptol (Cineole)
Minty and cool. Found in smaller amounts, but may offer mental clarity and respiratory benefits.
